Growth in Decay
We live in a time where cloth and clothing are rather cheap and disposable. If it gets stained or ripped, just get a new one. What if when a garment gets stained or gets a hole we mend it instead of throwing it away? What if we keep what we have and invest in fixing it? Is it possible by fixing and mending that we could improve the garment? Can it become even better than when it was new? I explored these questions while getting inspiration from traditional Japanese Boro and Sashiko techniques. I wanted to bridge the gap between older times when cloth was very valuable and modern styles. I chose a simple form that links to the past and present while showcasing the cloth, stains, holes, and mending.
